The soldier thrusts his M1879 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle and Bayonet in this pose.
Better than most for image quality and subject matter in this Spanish American War era cabinet photo of a young National Guardsman from South Carolina. Taken the studio of F. Jantzon Co., Greenville, the soldier is jabbing with his trapdoor rifle with bayonet affixed. Under magnification you can make out the 1879 rear sight on the barrel of this rifle. The soldier is wearing his typical fatigue uniform of 5 button blouse, medium blue trousers, campaign hat, canvas puttees and tan web belt (non Mills)
