A full standing armed view of what looks to be an officer in the 5th regiment.
I don’t have any history for this image taken Peter Kohlbeck, 229 Bowery, NY., but know him to be a cavalry officer, and most likely from New York. The CDV has a decent image quality, but when magnified to determine the regiment numeral it gets a bit hazy. The best I can gather, the number appears to be a “5.”
The young officer’s belt buckle looks to be a two piece eagle plate, of the pre-war militia pattern. I would have to think the image was taken early in the war.
Nice view, and a good look of the dress during the early stages of the Civil War.
