Description

Outline Descriptions Of The POSTS AND STATIONS OF TROOPS In The Geographical Divisions And Departments Of The United States.  Compiled By Inspector General R.B. Marcy. By Order Of The General In Chief Of The Army.  WASHINGTON: GPO 1872. Hard brown cloth boards, with leather spine and corners, Gilt lettering on cover and spine, ribbed, no illustrations.

Condition is very good, with light wear to cloth, and rubbing on leather, heavier wear on spine ends and corners. Some bubbling under the cloth on both sides. Marbled end paper, and pages. Extremely tight and interior showing very little use, especially for a large/heavy book.

Fort descriptions are listed by Department (sub-titled under Divisions), giving information such as; Location, Quarters, Store-houses, Hospital, guard house, Supplies, Water, and wood, Communications, Reservation, Description of the country, Garrison, (space for, to add by manuscript) Commanding Officer.

This copy was originally in The War Department Library (label on front end paper) and stamped, ” SURPLUS-DUPLICATE.”

A RARE and most useful reference.  A book you have to have in the Indian Wars Library.
