8″x 10″ Glossy Photo of “General Douglas MacArthur and a group of U.S. Army and Philippine officers wade ashore at Leyte Island, P.I.”, dated October 1944. The photo was cut from a 35mm motion picture film from the Signal Corps. The details of the photo is marked on the back. The image has a few small areas of scuffing on the surface.

 

General Douglas MacArthur – American five-star general. He was the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army during the 1930’s and played a prominent role in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He officially accepted Japan’s surrender on September 2,1945 aboard the USS Missouri. He also oversaw the occupation of Japan from 1945 to 1951.

 

The Battle of Leyte – Was an amphibious invasion of the island of Leyte in the Philippines by American forces and Filipino guerrillas under the command of General Douglas MacArthur.
