Description

A Fabulous example of Diplomatic dress from the 1842-1861 period, worn during the reign of FW IV of Prussia.
Made with a quality blue wool serge with fine red wool used for the facings color.  Ornately embellished with bullion herringbone on the breast, cuffs, and tails.  The coat has all the original buttons which are one piece gilt, and bear the crown and initials of Frederick William IV.  I have photographed the best I could the back mark; and my European button back mark references are poor, so hopefully the images will help to determine the makers.  My research has led to nothing regarding the buttons or this pattern coat.
The left breast has two heavy thread loops incorporated there to hold a medal bar, and below that are two more loops on the vertical that would hold a breast star.  I am assuming this was a retired military officer, now serving in a diplomatic capacity. Not sure of the size but would suggest the man who wore it originally had gained some weight over the years.
Condition is fabulous with only minor wear and moth nips.  It deserves a good researching, beyond my time and ability.
