Built in 1853; burned down in 1858.
Rare Album of NY Crystal Palace, a small leather embossed CDV album measures 4 1/2 x 6 inches and has a front cover view of the New York Crystal Palace, and the back cover shows two women surrounded with objects of the arts and sciences. The album holds twenty images, showing just light wear to the leather. Brass clasps are firmly attached but the gilt has toned some, and could be cleaned. There is some soiling to the pages within with one page torn and heavily stained.
The album with hold twenty CDV images.
The New York Crystal Palace opened in 1853 and held the Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations, essentially the World’s Fair for that year. It was based on the Crystal Palace in London. The opening ceremonies began with a speech from President Franklin Pierce. The palace was destroyed by fire in 1858. I would think a scarce album.
