A classic style gilt triple bordered pair of straps with that salty, “been there” look, and still a most respectable pair for any collector.
This is a nice quality pair of triple border shoulder straps for a major of the general staff. Fine gilt work showing age toning, yet still in very good condition. most of the wear is on the underside, where the original paper backing is showing it’s age. The black wool interior has a few very tiny moth nips, but not easy to see unless on close inspection.
These straps came from a small lot of civilian material identified to a Major Daniel Meade, 10th Connecticut Infantry. Those items are a daguerreotype of Meade circa mid 1850’s and his journal that he maintained in in 1854 while a law student at Poughkeepsie, NY. This items are not included with the straps.
Measuring a generous 6 3/4 inches in length, these sizable straps are worthy of any collection of Civil War officer’s uniform insignia.
