Description
The drummer appears to be a young man perhaps in his late teens, and wearing a sack coat, and knee high boots. His accoutrements are musicians shoulder belt and plate for M1840 musician’s sword (visible near the body at the top of drum hoop), waist belt with oval plate, drum sticks in left hand, plain company drum and sling over the left shoulder. He is standing in front of a painted camp scene with cannon in the foreground, but is a bit hard to see.
I bought this image in this gutta-percha case with military motifs on each side, and has not always been with the image, as the tin shows light bending, and spotting from age, having been without the protection of glass and or a case. The image is still clear, and is a respectable photo of a Civil War drummer.
The case has chipping on the corners, the image is very good.
