Description
1865 Invoice For Ordnance – C0. G 87th USCT. Dated August 16, 1865 at Camp Parapet. Louisiana, 2nd Lieutenant B.F. Burnham, Co. G, 87th, U.S. Colored Troops is turning over his company’s Springfield muskets, bayonets, cartridge boxes, musician and NCO sword belts, gun parts, tools, ammunition, and more, to 1st Lt. Elias B. Yordy, of Co. G, 87th USCT. This was all transferred in obedience to Regimental Order No. 54 by Lt. Colonel W.W. Bliss, dated August 10, 1865. Records show that on August 14, 1865, Burnham did nothing more that be transferred to the 84th USCT, the two regiments were consolidated, but was assigned to Co. I, 84th.
The regiment(s) had been organized in November of 1864, with the consolidation of the 87th and 96th USCT. They were attached to the Department of Texas, and Dept of the Gulf to August of 1865. Burnham’s company was attached to the Dept of the Gulf. While with the 84th USCT, Burnham remained in the Northern District of Louisiana, Dept of the Gulf until his discharge in March of 1866.
This inventory of ordnance stores for one company shows just about all the weapons, and accoutrements, etc. that had been issued to these troops. It is about a thorough inventory of government property I have seen for one company.
Condition is fine.
