A Souvenir given to Veteran’s at the Banquet held at Albany, NY on June 17, 1879.
This small cardboard cartridge box is covered in black paper with the texture of leather. The size of this miniature cartridge box is 4 1/2 w x 3d and about an inch thick. It may have held candy, but with a small cotton loop on the back, I would guess it was intended to be hung around the neck and used to hold business cards from other veterans and guests.
The condition is very good, with a few minor flaws, mostly being some paper loss under the flap. Body is sound, and the gold transfer lettering and monogram for GAR is in good shape too.
This is a fairly early piece compared to what is out in the collection world for G.A.R.
