Made by Ridabock & Company, New York, this is a fine cap for a New York State National Guard officer worn during the Spanish American War era. Introduced in 1895 into the US Army, the new garrison cap was not a favorite with officers. and was only worn until 1902. This cap has a fine directly embroidered bullion eagle with the state seal in gilt on the shield, and Excellior in the banner below. New York state staff buttons used on the sides, along with the chin strap in gilt. Mohair trim on the base, and fine wool for the cap proper.
Condition is fine with just the tiniest of moth nips
