A scarce pair of ring boxes.
This is a wonderful pair of miniature trunks or boxes, probably French or English. They are finished with what appears to be graphite and trimmed with polished iron decorative fittings and handles. The interiors are finished with paper. The largest flat lid box is 4 inches wide and 2 inches high; the other domed trunk is 3 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches high. The latches are simple hooks seen on traveling kits and jewelry boxes of the period.
Condition overall is fine with the smaller trunk having the most condition with some minor wear on the edges. The fittings are still showing large amounts of original polished. This trunk has pink paper in the interior, with some wool padding in the lid. The larger box is showing more of the outer finish wear. The interior has a striped paper with an old tape repair.
I have not seen this type of finish on boxes before.
