This collection contains, images, correspondence, documents, personal items, and other military items. After the Civil War, the 18th U.S. Infantry was garrisoned with the 2nd U.S. Cavalry, and briefly some Confederate -Galvanized Yankees (U.S. Volunteers). In 1867, the Army wanting to increase the number of regiments, departed from the old 3 battalion system per regiment, and made different regiments from the existing 2nd and 3rd battalions, thus I have an interest in the 27th and 36th U.S. Infantry. These later two newly created regiments ceased to exist in 1869, and were incorporated into established regiments. Period of Collection 1861-1876, unless having a direct connection to an individual’s career.
