A choice example of an early 20th Century CAC insignia of the sew-on variety.
The Artillery Corps was formed in 1901, and adopted this insignia minus the shell in its center. A year later the Coast Artillery Corps was established and added the shell, while the Field Artillery were prescribed the same short stubby cannons, but with a wheel at the center.
This one piece gilt example was made with sew-on loops. It is unmarked.
Fine- excellent condition. A minute chip in the enamel, visible with the aid of a jeweler’s loop.
