Large recruiting poster -Artist Michael P. Whelan, show shore gun battery.
Entitled, “Men Wanted for the Army” this full color recruiting poster was created by artist Michael P. Whelan, Circa 1902 -1908, going by the style of uniform for these Coast Artillery Corps soldiers. These were sent out to recruiting and other stations for an open area at the bottom to place the address of the nearest recruiter. This poster does not have an address.
The post is printed on thick paper, is not back by linen, and has attached wooden dowels on either end with an attached ring at the top for hanging. Overall size is 29.5 x 41 inches.
There is some water staining, light damage to paper margins in just a few area. The bottom dowel has broken on the left bottom side, but repaired currently. The lower right side needs to be reattached. I did nothing with this area as someone may wish to linen back the poster, clean and frame.
These posters currently range in prices of 350-500 and up, so priced reasonably.
Great color, my photography did not do it justice.
