Inspected & contract marked Pre- WWI era cap, “J.N. Susskind Co. Phila.”
This contract cap made by “N.J. SUSSKIND & CO., PHILADELPHIA.” is stamped on the inside of the sweatband along with the inspector’s number. The stamp was turned in a way that the date is not visible. The side buttons are rimless eagle types and this must be on of the first contracts for the new pattern 1912.
The OD wool material overall is in fine condition with a few very small moth holes, one about 1/8″ or so on the right side, behind the side button, and a larger area of mothing occurring under the crown overhang on the back (about a 1/4 inch square approx.). Very faint moth tracking in a few places and hardly noticeable. Leather visor and chinstrap are fine.
OD cotton lining is very good and has a full sweat band with some stitching popped in a few places. Light wear from use.
The Quartermaster Sergeant’s cap insignia is in excellent condition.
