1920’s – 30’s Army Officer’s Stetson Campaign Hat

The hat was hardly used and surprisingly the paper label inside the sweatband is still present.

This Stetson campaign was hardly used by this officer in the 164th Infantry Regiment. The hat still retains the original paper label that was affixed to the inside of the sweatband. The hat cord is a variant with black and gold threads woven together with an extra intermittent diagonal gilt thread appearing about every half inch. The chin strap is excellent as you’d expect, just a bit of verdigris buildup on the snaps of the chinstrap and buckle.

The 164th Infantry Regiment was part of the North Dakota National Guard and was part of the 34th Infantry Division. In WWII, this regiment was the first Army unit to land on Guadalcanal.

Can’t see a flaw on the OD felt.

The DUI is hallmarked by Josten / Dura Gold. It has a few tiny chips and scratches. Screw back. The officer most likely bought a new hat yet used the same DUI.

This is an exceptional “Montana Peak” Stetson.
