The 1st Ammunition Train was organized in 1917, in France, part of the 1st Division, the first American regular Army unit to arrive in France in WWI.

This variant DUI is not hallmarked, and has red enameled paws on the lion (most have black enamel). The insignia was approved in December of 1923. The shield has the upper section in red enamel, and a copper looking finish which is original, with the black lion.

Screw back.

Condition is fine.

An early and scarce variant.
