Description
2nd Connecticut Heavy Artillery Identified 6th Corps Badge. Engraved on a round silver badge, ” G.H. Black / Co. H 2nd C.V.A.” A painted 6th Corps badge in red (First Division) at center, and an engraved rope style border. The badge appears to have a sunken corps badge, but the badge is cut out, and a thin sheet of sheet of silver backing was applied with the old “T” bar pin.
Gustavus H. Black was from Washington, Ct. and enlisted as a private on August 11, 1862, into Co. “H,” 2nd Connecticut Heavy Artillery. He was discharged on June 6, 1865.
This unit saw action from the Wilderness, Cold Harbor, Winchester, Cedar Creek, Petersburg Campaign, and many other battles.
