The men of this unit stationed on Corregidor, surrendered to the Japanese, and suffered in the Bataan Death March.
59th Coast Artillery was part of the Harbor Defenses of Manila and Subic Bays. This unit was established in September of 1922 at Fort Mills, Corregidor, Philippines Islands. They were heavily engaged against Japanese Forces from late 1941, and finally were forced to surrender in May of 1942. Inactivated at the end of the war, but re-activated as the 59th A.A.A. Automatic Weapons Bn. at Fort Bliss, Texas in 1948.
