Written on War Department, Office of the Chief of Staff, Washington letterhead, dated May 8, 1939. The newly appointed Chief of Staff General George C. Marshall, writes to Col. Ranlett, first making note of Ranlett congratulating him on his appointment, and recalling their earlier meetings.
Includes a photogravure of Col. Ranlett as Commander of Boston School Boy cadets, and then attached to the 94th Division in New England.
Marshall had a great career finding favor in the military/ political realm. Eisenhower, as did other referred to him as the “Boss.” Serving as aide de camp of generals like J. Franklin Bell, and John J. Pershing, and later rubbing elbows with presidents and world leaders. He and several other flag rank officers made General of the Armies, (5 Star rank).
The letter is in fine condition, with a bold signature. placed between glass sheets and bound with old scotch tape.
