Description
The Artillery Corps (forerunner of the Coast Artillery Corps) was established in 1901, calling for the configuration seen here. This gilt “STERLING” marked insignia is pen back with open catch. The center section was soldered into place after applying the scarlet wool felt center. Regulations called for scarlet enamel, imitation embroidery, or painted center, and then there are always variations on the regs, such as this one.
38mm wide. Nearly all the gilt remaining. Only have the single.
A rare artillery officer’s insignia.
