Description

August 1775 Colony of Connecticut Payment Document For Stores & Provisions, signed by the Pay Committee, Thomas Seymour, and Oliver Elsworth, and Timothy Lawrence, Treasurer.  The payment of 500 pounds was made out to Hezekiah Bissell, also a captain in the army.

Hezekiah Bissell, an officer and commissary of the Colony of Connecticut, had prior service in the militia, having served in the French and Indian War. He served all war long with successive ranks of ensign, Lieutenant and captain, and saw service at the Siege of Boston, and the taking of Fort Ticonderoga.  He was stationed there with General Israel Putnam through one winter making a copy of the plan of the fort.  He was born in Windsor, Ct., May 20, 1737, and died November 14, 1831.

Hezekiah Bissell signed the back of this receipt at Hartford, on 11 August, 1775.

A nice early Revolutionary War document, with signatures of note from Connecticut.

The document is clean, and generally fine.  The middle seam is separated at the fold about 3/4 of the way. I did not apply acid free, as it might interfere with the look of Bissell’s signature.
