Medal and marksman’s badge are engraved / etched.
This Salem, Massachusetts City medal in original box, and the Class A marksman badge belonged 1st Sergeant Warren L. Phillips, Battery “D”, 44th Artillery (CAC). The bronze medal is engraved on the back, and the marksman badge has had the sergeant’s initials etched on the back. Also included is a WWI Victory Medal ribbon bar with three rather large campaign stars.
This unit served in France using 8 inch British Howitzers.
The box contains the info on Phillips, and records he had a Victory Medal with No. 81205?
Medal and badge are in very good condition, with only the ribbon looking a bit tattered above the mounting ring. This was all that was in the lot when found.
