CDV 2nd Lieutenant Charles H. Cotting 59th Massachusetts Infantry.
Charles Cotting was a shoemaker from Marlborough, Mass, when he enlisted as a corporal in Co, I of the 13th Mass Infantry. It is highly likely that Cotting was in many of the early war battle in the Army of the Potomac, including the battles at 2nd Bull Run, Antietam, and Gettysburg, etc. He was discharged for promotion from the 13th, taking a commission as 2nd Lt. in the 59th Mass Infantry as of January 28, 1864 and discharged on December 29, 1864.
