CDV – Admiral Samuel Francis DuPont – US Navy

CDV – Admiral Samuel Francis DuPont – US Navy (1803-1865).  A member of the Prominent Delaware DuPont Family.  Attained the rank of rear admiral in 1862. He led the successful attack on Port Royal in Nov. of 1861, the first amphibious, naval engagement of the war. Failed to take Charleston. First Naval officer to have command over Ironcad ships.  Relived of command in July of 1863, and returned home to Delaware.
