This full bust shot of Captain Charles H Lewis, was taken by M. Witt Photographic Gallery, Columbus, Ohio.   The captain has signed his name at the bottom on the mount, “Compliments of Charles H. Lewis, 16th U.S. Inf.”

Lewis was commission into the 16th Infantry on August 8, 1861 and served with his regiment until he resigned in July of 1864. He saw action at Shiloh, Stones River, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, and the Atlanta Campaign.  By then most of the Regular Brigade, 14th AC of the Army of the Cumberland and been pretty much been used up.

This CDV came from the Album of Captain Thomas Talbot Brand, 18th U.S. Infantry, also in the 14AC.
