CDV- Identified 71st New York Soldier, written in pencil, “Fred Sauxay,” who enlisted in May to September of 1862.

Frederick D. Sauxay would later muster with the 7th New York Independent Light Battery in January 1864, and served in that unit until they were mustered out in July of 1865.  Sauxay served while the battery was in the defenses of Bermuda Hundred, Va.

Wearing his state militia jacket and well accoutered, including his “SNY” oval belt plate, and “39” breast plate that are quite clear.

A nice clean and clear image, taken by Gibbon, Broadway, New York.

From the Michael McAfee Collection.
