CDV – Sergeant James S. Knights – Co. I 6th Mass. Infantry.

James Knights, a 24 year old Railroad, Brakeman, from Lawrence, Ma., enlisted on April 15, 1861, as a private into Co. I., and went through the rioters in Baltimore on April 19th, with 3 other companies under the command of Capt. Follensbee. He mustered out after three months of duty around the Capital.

On August 8, 1862, Knights mustered with the nine month 6th Mass. and was promoted to sergeant, remaining with company I.  The regiment saw some action against confederate forces around Suffolk, Va. and sustained some casualties. Mustered out on June 3, 1663.
