Coates Kinney (1826 -1904), near Penn Yan, New York. He was partly educated at Antioch College, Yellow Springs, Ohio, and was accompanied by Thomas Corwin while he studied law. He was admitted to the bar in Cincinnati in 1856. He became a journalist, and worked on papers in Cincinnati. He served in the Civil War as an Army paymaster with the rank of Lt. Colonel. After the war, he was involved with state politics, and became a senator from 1882-83. He was from Xenia, Ohio.
