Civil War Officer’s Non Regulation Sword

Description
Constructed of all iron furniture, this non regulation sword was imported for the war and the blade is marked Solingen. The basket hilt has the typical incorporated American Federal Eagle and banner “E Pluribus Unum” and the US below. The original sharkskin grip and grip wire are intact. The 32” blade has etched panels on both sides of the blade, not elaborate, but finely done. The blade remains in excellent condition with some of the frosty etching remaining. The scabbard is iron as well, and as with the hilt, the surfaces are an untouched dark patina. A popular sword with the “working class” officer during the war, more plain normally than the regular U.S. made patterns in brass and gilt, but just as rugged. In fine condition.
