Modified with white paint within the center section of the silver badge.
Between the years 1903- 21, the coast artilleryman qualified on “A” Course rifle ranges firing at 200-300 yards, since the CA was only using rifles in a defensive posture.
This badge was restricted to those who qualified for the badge on an annual basis.
Note the center of this badge has been painted white by the wearer. The paint does allow the lettering on the badge to stand out. I have not seen this done before on another badge. The silver badge indicates an award going to a regular army qualifier (bronze would be for National Guard).
45mm long. Pin back with open catch.
Fine plus condition.
