Early badge with applied crossed “Krag rifles, made at Rock Island Arsenal.
Creating a new skill level for its marksman, the army devised this new silver badge in 1903, which coincidentally soon began featuring crossed ’03 Springfield Rifles shortly after production in the same year. This early type However has crossed Krag rifles applied on the wreath of laurels, as later issue badges would be cast in one piece.
This badge has been upgraded by the soldier, who added a re-qualification bar with the dates, “1910- 12- 13.”
There are no markings. Comparatively, these are much harder to find without the re-qualification bars.
