Ex-George III Document Dated 1783 From Ipswich, Massachusetts – SOLD

In a document dated the First Tuesday of April, 1783, this power to sell land from an estate, generated from Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts, is signed by the clerk, Isaac Osgood, for Abigail Somerby of Newburyport.   Condition is very good, showing wear, and general soiling, but sound.

The nicest aspect of this document is something that we in this country no longer truly appreciate, that is the utilization of all things as long as a use can be found for it. MAKE DO. In this case the heading was that of the British Crown, namely, King George III. Instead of throwing this away and using new paper, a simple swipe of the pin made it usable again. Our current generations would have thrown it out most likely.

A great piece of ephemera from the Revolutionary War period, when officially the war would not end until September 3, 1783.
