A miniature book for children, containing 46 biographies of presidents, statesman, generals, inventors, etc.
Condition is very good. Cloth is rubbed, heavier on corners. Good amount of gilt remains on the cloth decoration and page edging. Minor foxing throughout. A tight copy.
The little book contains 3 inscriptions on the inner front flyleaves, first to “Eugenia T. Lennon’s Book Presented to her by her S.S. (Sunday School) Teacher Miss Liddy on the 1st of August, 1847”. Next to that on the inside end page, “Mary Serena Lennons Book, Presented to her by her Aunt Eugenia, May 8th, 1853.” Below that in pencil, “Frances Ackerman, From her Sister Rena (Serena), Dec. 1867.” Then…. “Frances ” (in pencil above) “This book was given to me by Mother, Mary S. Perry, Brooklyn, NY, Nov. 1896, Estelle P. Howe.”
To clarify the lineage: First presented to Eugenia T. Lennon….passed on to….. Mary Serena Lennon …..given to ….Frances Ackerman…..to Estelle P. Howe. All related.
A well documented book that stayed close to family for a good time; a well grounded family, strong in patriotism.
