Interesting CDV of an infantry lieutenant with uniform discrepancy.
This carte de visite was taken by J.P. Leisenrng, Danville, Pa., capturing this young lieutenant wearing the insignia on his forage cap upside-down. I am unaware of this purposely done, and am assuming that he was unaware, or I am. The infantry horn appears to be the gold bullion type without unit designation.
His sword, held at that angle might be an 1850 foot officer’s but not totally certain of that, and it looks to be on the short side.
An interesting image, with a story that presently is untellable.
Very good condition.
