Description

Fabulous silk ribbon commemorating the laying of the Washington Monument on October 10th, 1847 in Washington, D.C.  George Washington is wearing civilian clothing, probably taken from a portrait of the president at the turn of that century. A great printed border, and decorative woven border make for a most attractive ribbon.

In 1876 after America celebrated it’s 100th Anniversary, President Grant authorized the funds to complete the long running project.  It was not until 1888 that the monument was opened to the public.

A large ribbon, 3 x 7 inches; and in fine + condition. The image I am using exhibits some discoloration that does not show on the actual item.
