A good Civil War dated book covering many rifle topics, including illustrations of Colt and Henry rifles.
HINTS TO RIFLEMAN. BY H.W.S. CLEVELAND. NEW YORK: D. Appleton And Company, 1864 First Edition. Hardcover, green cloth with gilt spine lettering. 260 pages, with illustrations.
See images for contents.
Illustrations of Merrill, Wesson Spencer, Colt (revolving) & Henry rifles and other related illustrations.
Condition is fine, with the slightest wear, some light age toning of pages. About the best condition one could hope for in a book of this era.
Has a name on the front flyleaf, “W.N. King ?” A typed note named this to a William N. King, 1st New York Mounted Rifles. Served in the Civil War for August 1862- to Sept. 1864 and then designation of regiment changed to 4th Provisional Cavalry on Sept. 6, 1865. This King was discharged in November of that year at Port Royal, Va. I can’t confirm the identification, but it did come from an old collection.
