Historic Pre Civil War Militia Groupings with Headgear

Alex Dearborn was captain of the National Lancers in the early 1850’s, and later was on the staff of the 1st Brigade, 1st Division of the Mass. Volunteer Militia. The 1851 shako is an unknown type, and presumably a short lived pattern adopted in the later 1850’s and out of date by the end of the Civil War. His grouping contains three pieces of headgear, the third piece being a full dress chapeau in box with Dearborn’s name written on it.
