M1885 Cavalry Saber Belt & hangers.

This 1885 pattern saber belt consists of the 1872 waist belt and buckle, with a single ’72 saber hanger brass slide with dismount hook, and the 1885 hangers.  The belt is well marked with inspectors markings, and the hangers have some numbering, but no unit discernable.

The leather on both pieces is very good with light crackling and wear.  An interesting repair, most likely by a saddler has been made to the adjustment hook on the belt. Nice original buckle with some old shellac.

This rig replaced the 1872 pattern which had two separate brass slides and two leather hangers with brass hooks that hung from the slides. The new 1885 saber hangers were worn with the this saber belt for garrison wear, and also in the field suspended from the web prairie belts, and later all web ammunition belts.
