This is a nice example of the Army general officer’s undress cap, with the dark blue velvet banding. The quality is not a ritzy as some, but then it was for undress wear.  Not a regular Army officer.

Very Good overall condition; shows signs of heavy wear and aging; wool has blemishes and numerous tiny moth holes and one bigger one on top edge, the under edge of the visor also has a couple of small holes; vent eyelets, chin strap, buttons, and bullion all intact; leather sweatband has heavy wear; some moth holes on headband edge of cap, the inside cap lining is in great condition though; moderate toning on bullion, strap, and light toning on buttons.

Manufacturer mark partially visible – (PHILADELPHIA)
Measures just over 22″ head circumference, Approx. Size: 7-3/8 (no label)

Pencil handwriting on inside of leather sweatband flap – “IRVIN” or maybe “IRVING”; not a regular Army officer.
