A Model 1855 socket bayonet and bridle leather scabbard in respectable condition.
This pattern 1855 socket bayonet will fit Springfield and other Contract rifled muskets of the Civil War era. The original socket bayonet is completely made using black bridle leather, incorporating both stitching and rivet construction.
Bayonet measures approx. 21″ in total length; scabbard measures approx. 19 1/4″.
The bayonet shows very light signs of a burnishing wheel used, but not all that bad. Some minute pitting in a few areas, and some light blemishing. The scabbard show use, with surface leather worn and flaking in the high spots, and edges. One bend at the center, has weakened but not broken the scabbard. Stitching is intact. Drag firmly secured, with on brass retaining stud missing and filled in with lead.
A great display piece, with that “it’s been there” look.
