1874 Mounted Saber Belt with Hangers

Description

The Model 1874 Mounted Saber belt was the issue 1874 Waist belt with the addition of two brass belt slides (one having the dismount hook for saber), and two separate saber hangers.

The belt of black bridle leather shows some crackling over the entire surface, but is very sound and has that great used look. The  hangers, are in Very good + condition.  There are unit numbers on the leather, an “8” followed by a perpendicular “I” which could be the regiment and soldiers equipment number.  All leather is supple and you can’t ask for much better. The aging of the leather has locked the brass slides in place, and I have not wanted to move them.

The Hagner 1874 rectangular belt plate with oval and “U.S.” has a nice untouched mellow patina.

A great example of the cavalry saber belt of the Indian Wars period.
