GENERAL ORDERS No.5 by the order of Brig. Gen. R. B. Van Valkenburgh, Commanding, Elmira Depot. This document details 30 general orders for the New York Volunteers, at Elmira Depot including numbering of the barracks, division of company, daily routines/orders, etc.

The document has light to moderate wear, staining, and creasing. It is fold-creased horizontally 5 times and has some other light creases. The bottom edge is curled in the center. The stains and light foxing exists around the edges of the sheet, more so on the back side which is blank. The printed text is in excellent shape. Document was folded also.
