Ordnance Document Received At Washington Arsenal – Savage Pistols.
Dated January 13, 1862, received at Washington Arsenal from Capt. J. Porter, Battery A. Massachusetts Artillery, 15 Savage Pistols (revolvers) & append.’ and 1000 Savage’s Pistol Ball Cart’gs, unserviceable, along with 1 box packing. Signed by E.N. Stebbins, PM & MSK.” (Paymaster & Military Storekeeper)
Edward N. Stebbins, entered service from Pennsylvania as an ordnance military storekeeper on June 10, 1861; resigned October 10, 1865.
Josiah Porter enlisted as a 1st Lieutenant in December of 1860, and commissioned into the Mass 1st Light Artillery, and mustered out on August 2, 1861, at Baltimore, Md. He was commissioned on August 28, 1861 into the 1st Mass Light Artillery as a captain. He resigned in September of 1862.
