This very handsome printed invitation is un-used, but one intended to be sent to members of the Society of the Army of the Cumberland, at the unveiling of the statue of Major General George H. Thomas, the wartime commander of the Army of the Cumberland. The unveiling took place on November 19-20, 1879.

The listed Executive Committee consisted of James A. Garfield, Thomas L. Young, and Alexander McD. McCook. The invitation also had the engraved name of the Sec. of the Committee, Henry C. Corbin, (Adjt. Gen. of the Army).

The engraving of the society medal and that of Gen. Thomas are superb. This was issued for the Eleventh Reunion of the Society. Done on thick card stock (5 ½ x 7 ½).

Condition is excellent with just very slight toning around the edges.
