Description
The pattern 1885 Mills web belt holding 50 rounds of .45 caliber cartridges, is identified by the use of 3 eyelets on either end of the belt. The color is called stone or dark gray (medium tan). Used in conjunction with this belt is the 1881 two piece stamped brass U.S. “H” plate.
The scarcity of the plate is due to its inability to hold up in field use, and was rapidly replaced with the new 1886 plates (stamped 2 piece “H” plate).
The belt shows use, but not abuse. There is some soiling, slight staining, and fraying on the edges of the loops, heavier in the area where the loops would have come in contact with a holster’s belt loop. There are more eyelets used throughout the belt for suspending brass wires for adding equipment to the belt.
