A souvenir from Bethlehem Steel Co. early 1900s.
This appear to be bronze not brass cuttings labeled, “Cuttings from 7″ Brass gun on the second Maine made at Bethlehem.”
The metal has all coiled as it was cut at a lathe. The wonderful old label is right as rain.
Construction on the 2nd USS Maine began shortly after the turn of the century, (BB-10)
Accompanying this relic is an oversized business card for the Bethlehem Iron Co., measuring 3x 5 1/4 inches.
