An uncommon Championship Drill Award for Coast Artillery.
This bronze badge, made similar in fashion to the marksmanship badges of the same era, was awarded to members (assuming all members) of the 4th Coast Artillery best drill platoon.
55mm long, and pin back; reads, “4th- C.A. CHAMPIONSHIP/ DRILLED PLATOON- 1931.” Not having found any information on this piece, I will take a leap and claim it to be a competition designed to stimulate the troops out of their boredom while stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. How many were awarded and over how many years is unknown.
The badge is pin back with locking ring, and maker marked on the back, “ELLIOTT.”
Nice deep bronze color- untouched. Haven’t seen another.
