WWII Identified Navy Blue Cover – Lieutenant JG Thomas B. Follin served On USS LST-571 in both the Pacific & Atlantic theaters. Thomas Barker Follin either wore this cap before or after his service in the Pacific aboard the LST – 571. He would have worn his khaki cover at that time. This blue cap shows some “saltiness.” His trimmed card is placed in the crown protective lining, and the cap marked Russel Uniform Company, Broadway, New York City. I did not remove the eagle cap insignia to determine the hallmark.
USS LST -571 was commissioned in June of 1944, and assigned to the Pacific theater. She took part in the Philippines Campaign, and Battle of Okinawa. Decommissioned in 1948, sold to the Port Hudson Iron Works, Houston, Texas. Interesting note, her last roll, was in a James Bond Movie, “Lie and Let Die,” where in the scene, a speed boat runs into her open bow doors, and explodes.
Nice hat with some history.
